The Trabuc caves in the Cévennes

The Trabuc cave is a must-see when visiting the Cévennes. This living cave, sculpted by the work of water over time, captivates all its visitors. Get up close and personal with extraordinary nature, and enjoy a family visit on an interactive, illuminated and safe trail.

The Grotte de Trabuc is located near Anduze and Alès, in the commune of Mialet, in the heart of the Cévennes.
This unspoilt mineral paradise is famous for its jellyfish and crystal butterflies, its waterfalls and above all for its enigmatic hall of the 100,000 soldiers. Thousands of centimetric concretions, resembling toy soldiers in a row, line the floor of this room. To date, no one has been able to explain how these formations came about. The mystery remains, adding to the magic of the place.

As you immerse yourself underground, you’ll be able to take command of the large lake room and operate the projectors for incredible lighting effects.
At the end of the day, take part in the ” double visit ” for a unique experience. Follow in the footsteps of the first explorer with your own carbide lamp, accompanied by your guide all the same! Admire the contrast when the cave is illuminated only by the glow of a flame, or when it is revealed under modern lights.
To go even further (provided you’re in good physical condition), try the ” underground safari ” tour for 4 hours of discovery off the beaten track. A journey to the center of the earth you won’t soon forget!

To cool off and enjoy the pleasures of water, head for the Gardon river near the grotto. At the gateway to the Cévennes, the Gardon valley is also an ideal playground for nature lovers, hikers and river swimmers.
After this refreshing break, set off to discover the beautiful town ofAnduze. This typical Cévennes village is packed with treasures, including its castle and towers, its religious monuments and its many fountains.

Another must-see nearby is the bamboo grove at Anduze. This site, the only one of its kind in Europe, allows visitors to stroll through a variety of areas, including a forest of giant bamboos, a labyrinth, a Japanese garden, a water garden, etc.
For a timeless ride, board the Cévennes steam train, which passes through the Bambouseraie and links Anduze to Saint-Jean-du-Gard. Restored by rail enthusiasts, the train crosses the magnificent Cévennes countryside (with a possible stop at the bamboo grove).
